PROJECT

ONE

Oelwein Community School District is challenging the traditional approach to education with Project ONE and Senior Seminar.

In order to reach the desired state of our district, we are interweaving the Universal Constructs with skills and content of the Iowa Core by implementing Project Based Learning, Work Based Learning, and Community Based Learning opportunities.

It is only through true community and business partnerships that this can be achieved at high levels.

Contact us to find out more about how we are building true community partnerships to make this happen!

Oelwein High School has been named a STEM BEST School and has two teachers on staff who are STEM Innovator certified through the University of Iowa, Jacobsen Institute.

The Iowa Governor’s STEM Advisory Council has awarded 50 STEM BEST® Programs since 2014 with an opportunity to grow a series of community collaborations involving school+business partnerships.

Each awardee demonstrated through a rigorous proposal process substantive commitments on the part of school and business stakeholders to bridge these two cultures through education programs deeply interwoven with business applications.

Working side-by-side, teachers and industry professionals will craft curriculum and projects that prepare students for exciting career pathways in the STEM fields of manufacturing, information technology, bioscience (agriculture and medicine), finance, and more.

STEM Innovator® aims to widen the talent pipeline of students prepared for STEM careers and future entrepreneurial pathways -- vital to advancing our nation's economic prosperity.

To be future ready, students need opportunities to work on real-world problems, engage in collaborative teams, identify and leverage resources, and design viable solutions to meet community needs.

Currently, Oelwein Community Schools has two educators, Mr. Josh Vanderloop and Mrs. Deb Kaeppel, who will both soon be certified to teach STEM Innovator.
